Messy Mommy Jobs & Link Up

We started out our Advent season with a little of this:

And then, the cat joined the fun.
(How dare you! Let me get my camera, and then you are SO getting out of their, you stinkin' cat!)

Photobucket

Too slow,joe.

And then, this happened:

That was a new one for me.  I'd never really thought of THAT space as a blank canvas, made to inspire creativity.

You may undo your creativity now, boys.

And then, this happened.
Can you guess what this is a picture of?

It was barely 8am, and the wiggly boys were already getting to me. One punched one, one poured milk on another, and I put them in the tub for a minute, with the hopes that a little water would distract them from beating each other up for a minute. It didn't. So I got one of the boys out, and I stood him on the counter to dry him and dress him. He fought me. I tried to put his shirt on. He danced. I covered him with lotion. He pounded on the mirror and laughed at my frustration. I reached for his pants.

He defiantly smashed his lotioned bottom up against the mirror.
And I was mad.
"Can't you just BE STILL for a minute! Look what you did! There are butt cheeks on my my mirror!"
As my angry words flew at him, he tried hard to look sorry, but he was trying not to laugh.
After all, mom did just yell the words, "butt cheeks."

And just like that, I saw it. The ridiculousness of it all, both the butt cheeks and my own anger. We laughed and laughed. And the entire tone of the morning was reset, just like that.

And I left them there for an entire day. They made me smile every time.

Messy Mommy Jobs:: Where I've been (Mess photos & Link Up)

Where have I been all week?

Here:

Pretty Lake (Wolcotville, Indiana.)

Before you get too jealous, remember that I had my kids with me :)
And that even the peaceful-looking picture above is only peaceful because there is no audio track.
It was no quiet desert island, but it was fun!

My mess this week: post-vacation aftermath.

Monday's Mess- Link Up and share your pictures!

I wake up and the house is messy, but livable.  Not a disaster (usually,) but not quite company-ready, either.  I work all day long, sweeping, organizing, moving this here and that there... and by the end of the day, the house is .. about the same.
Messy, but livable.
What is it that I do all day long?!

Well, I pick up stuff, like this:

and they "help."
And... repeat.

One of the hardest things about motherhood (for me,) is the lack of TANGIBLE progress. I can work on something all day, like laundry, and it is never fully DONE (not for long,) but I can't not work on it, either.

So I've started taking pictures of some of the messes, before I clean them. It is a little bit satisfying to imagine what this house would look like if I didn't do my job for a day, or even an hour. It makes me feel a little less like a hamster running on a treadmill.

Some of the pictures make me laugh. Like this:

Somebody colored on the basement stairs. Then, he left the marker sticking out of a hole in the stairs for me. Perhaps he wanted to make sure I didn't miss his artwork?

This chaotic life is exhausting, but t's funny, too.
Especially after the fact.

Join me!
I want to see your pictures, friends!
What messes have you cleaned up? Messy kids? Gross stuff in your fridge? Did they use sidewalk chalk on your car or makers on your window?

Perhaps if we compile our pictures, we will stand back in awe... we will see some of our work, DONE, and we will realize that we really DO make the world more beautiful by our constant efforts!

That, or we will just become overwhelmed at the chaos that awaits us today, and tomorrow. But even so, we will find company in our battle against all that is out of place in this world!
Join me, fellow soldier!

I will share some of my favorites next Monday.
