this mission

I seldom feel like much of an adventurer--standing in this kitchen, pouring cereal into bowls, refilling them, handing out paper towels when the inevitable cry comes: "Uh oh. I spilled." But sometimes at night the thought will strike me: There are three small people here, breathing sweetly in their beds, whose lives are for the moment in our hands. I might as well be at the controls of a moon shot, the mission is so grave and vast."

  1. "Grave and vast," and you have no idea what you're getting into when snuggling that cutest of newborns. Ignorance is bliss...but so is much of the time after the ignorance subsides.

  2. It is interesting how we take our daily moments and set a charge behind them and find out what God sees. What we do as mothers has eternal value. He didn't let men in on His creative side, but He sure let us in. Awesome. Blast away, my dear friend, blast away!

  3. Like you, I don't always notice it, but every now and then it hits me. There is nothing more adventurous than having children around. From identification of bugs to trying on earrings, I never know what is going to come next.

  4. It's taunting and exhilerating all in one isn't it? I love this little post. :) Julie from the where two or three are gathered link up

  5. What a powerful thought, so true. We take these precious moments for granted sometimes. One day they will be out of the house and relying on all that we poured into them and taught them during the short time they are "in our hands"! The mission certainly is grave and vast. Awesome post!
